"I Am Brave and Unafraid" Transformed into a Play!

Wait, What? A Play??? Wow!!!

In February 2018 we received $4000 in grant money from the Illinois Arts Council Agency to fund a drama program at Piper Elementary in Berwyn, IL.  16th Street Theater collaborated with the school to engage 1st - 3rd graders in a first ever drama experience where the kids wrote, produced and performed a the book, "I Am Brave and Unafraid".

Drama Program, Performance, Resolution!

On March 12th, 2018, the drama program at Piper began.  24 children met twice a week for 18 sessions to create the play and build self-confidence. On May 8, 2018 they performed in a parents only viewing at 16th Street Theater.  On May 9, 2018 they performed to the public.  State Representative Elizabeth Hernandez awarded Arielle Cohen, Maeli Goren and Maritza Cervantes of 16th Street Theater and Piper Elementary School a gold leafed Resolution!  Wow!

Up Next?

Collaboration with local theaters and play writers to produce a traveling masterpiece is in the works!  Additionally we would like to collaborate more local theaters in the area and get more schools to create their own version of "I Am Brave and Unafraid".
